I ate the pizza in New York.
I enjoyed the trip. I made memories. I stepped out of my usual routine. And when I came home, my clothes felt a little tighter.
But I did not panic.
Because health was never supposed to mean never enjoying your life.

At Caban Metabolic Wellness, I work with women in Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas who are tired of living between two extremes: trying to be “perfect” with food and exercise, or feeling like they ruined everything the moment they go on vacation, enjoy dessert, or have a busy week.
That is not health.
That is fear.
Real health should give you more life, not less of it.
One vacation does not erase your progress
A few days of different foods, more sodium, less sleep, travel stress, alcohol, dessert, and less movement can absolutely make your body feel heavier, swollen, inflamed, or “off.”
That does not mean you gained several pounds of fat overnight.
It often means your body is holding on to more fluid. Your digestion may be slower. Your sleep may be disrupted. Your appetite signals may be different. Your hormones and stress response may be louder than usual.
This is especially true for women in their late 30s, 40s, and 50s, when perimenopause, menopause, insulin resistance, poor sleep, and body composition changes can make the body feel less predictable than before.
The National Institute on Aging notes that around menopause, women may lose muscle, gain fat, and experience stiff or achy joints and muscles. That is exactly why many women feel like their “old rules” suddenly stopped working.
The answer is not punishment.
The answer is returning calmly.
Protein. Hydration. Movement. Sleep. Structure. Medical support when needed.
Health is not punishment after pleasure
Many women come to me after years of being told some version of:
“Just eat less.”
“Move more.”
“Your labs are normal.”
“You’re too young for hormones.”
“It’s just aging.”
“You just need more discipline.”
But they know something has changed.
They are gaining weight in new places. Their joints hurt. Their sleep is lighter. Their brain fog is affecting their work. Their reflux is worse. Their energy is lower. Their cravings feel harder to control. Their body no longer responds to the same habits that used to work.
That is not a character flaw.
That is physiology.
And physiology deserves a medical approach.
Treat yourself to health
Treat yourself to joy.
Treat yourself to the trip.
Treat yourself to the beautiful meal.
Treat yourself to the memory with your family.
And most of the time, treat yourself to health too.
To sleep that actually restores you.
To strength that protects your body as you age.
To protein and nourishment that support your metabolism.
To preventive care before disease takes over.
To medical evaluation when your symptoms are being dismissed.
To treatment that helps your body cooperate again.
And when appropriate, treat yourself to medicine as a tool — not a shortcut, not a failure, and not a moral issue.
For some patients, that may include evidence-based obesity medicine.
For others, it may include menopause care, hormone therapy, insulin resistance treatment, or GLP-1 medications when clinically appropriate.
The goal is not to make your life smaller.
The goal is to protect your health so you can keep living fully.
Prevention is also self-care
You do not have to wait until brain fog is affecting your work.
You do not have to wait until inflamed joints keep you from moving.
You do not have to wait until weight gain becomes metabolic disease.
You do not have to wait until insulin resistance, prediabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease risk, or exhaustion are already stealing your quality of life.
The CDC describes obesity as a chronic condition associated with higher risk of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers.
The American Heart Association also emphasizes that some heart disease risk factors can be improved, including physical activity, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and tobacco use.
That is why prevention matters.
Not because we are trying to scare you.
Because your future quality of life is worth protecting now.
Menopause care is not vanity care
Perimenopause and menopause can affect sleep, mood, body composition, sexual health, urinary symptoms, energy, and quality of life.
The Menopause Society states that hormone therapy remains the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms and genitourinary syndrome of menopause, and that risks vary depending on type, dose, duration, route, timing, and whether progesterone is needed.
That does not mean every woman needs hormone therapy.
It means women deserve an individualized, evidence-based conversation — not dismissal.
At Caban Metabolic Wellness, menopause care is not about chasing youth.
It is about helping women function, sleep, think, move, and feel like themselves again.
A calmer, physician-led approach to weight, metabolism, and menopause
At Caban Metabolic Wellness, I provide physician-led telemedicine care for women in Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas who want a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to:
- Weight and metabolic health
- Perimenopause and menopause symptoms
- Hormone therapy when appropriate
- Insulin resistance and body composition changes
- GLP-1 medication guidance when clinically appropriate
- Long-term prevention and health optimization
This is not a quick-fix clinic.
This is not shame-based weight loss.
This is not “wellness” without medical depth.
This is personalized care for women who want to feel better, protect their long-term health, and understand what is happening in their bodies.
You can enjoy your life and still take your health seriously
You can eat the pizza.
You can take the trip.
You can enjoy the birthday dinner.
You can have the dessert.
And you can still come back to your habits, your structure, your medical care, and your long-term health goals.
Health is not the opposite of joy.
Health is what helps you keep enjoying your life.
If your body has changed, your symptoms are being dismissed, or you are ready for a physician-led approach to weight, metabolism, perimenopause, or menopause, I would be honored to help.
