Why Perimenopause Causes Weight Gain — And Why It's Not Your Fault
During perimenopause, estrogen and progesterone levels begin to fluctuate — and these hormones directly regulate where your body stores fat, how your metabolism functions, and how your brain signals hunger and fullness. This isn’t about eating more or moving less. It’s a physiological shift that changes your body’s entire metabolic set point. The weight that accumulates around your abdomen during this time is driven by hormonal change — not a lack of discipline. Modern medicine has real, evidence-based tools to address this. You just need a physician who understands it.
The weight isn't the problem. The hormones are. And hormones are treatable.

Meet Dr. Amanda Caban Herrera
I’m Dr. Amanda Caban Herrera — a physician who has dedicated her practice to the intersection of hormonal health and metabolic medicine. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, completed my Internal Medicine residency there, and hold dual board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM).
I’m also a member of The Menopause Society, with advanced training in perimenopause and menopause management.
I’ve spent over 7 years in hospital medicine watching women be dismissed, undertreated, or handed generic advice that doesn’t work. That’s why I built this practice — to give women in Texas access to real, evidence-based, physician-led care for perimenopause and metabolic health. Virtually. Without the wait. Without the judgment.
